New place new life and new beginning

Its almost running two months since i stepped inside the campus of National Service Academy Project Jamtsholing , Samtse. I still find difficult to believe that I am here working as Bio-aesthetic Officer . Every thing happened in fast. Packing things and leaving gelephu was quite emotional. So many fond memories with amazing colleagues have been created there , hence it was heart clenching to leave all those behind. Series of farewell showered by them warmed my heart beyond measures. I remain truly thankful to them. But destination is matter of choice than a chance or perhaps both. This post of bio-aesthetic officer seems to have awaited me all this while. So many things have already transpired for this post and eventually it has offered itself to me. Perhaps , god knew my passion for flowers and heard prayers that I occasionally offer. More importantly, the journey that lies ahead is what makes me anxious . Massive project and directly accountable to His Majesty The King. This pr...

The summer

The night is over casted with rain soaked clouds. A short flashes of the lightening; let us see the dark clouds floating across the sky. It has not been long since there was a heavy rain earlier but for now the sky seems to have put on a halt. There are lot of frogs around , swimming in the puddle formed by the rain and mostly in the water-filled paddy fields. These frogs make so much of noises as though they would not get chance to croak from tomorrow. Except for them otherwise the night would have been very quiet. Some say that the frogs in actual are singing to seek an attention of their partners. But somewhere afar their noise could have already awaken a sleeping snake or a wondering owl. In a moment the rain starts its show , beating down on the road and on the fields. Pot holes on the road starts filling up forming multiple puddles while the Paddy fields are turned into a big lake. The water runs down the road creating a stream and carrying everything it could on its way. It ...

Farewell to Mr. Towla.

Today we the staff, chaired by the Program Director has come together to bid farewell to Mr.Towla. He has served for the last 32 years in the civil service; older than the age of the most of the staff here. Due to the covid-19 situation and subsequent directives from the government, we could not organize the formal gathering for his farewell. So at one point it incites a sense of an embarrassment as well as an resentment for this discrepancy. As for Mr.Towla, he has started his career from as a lab technician at Paro and came a very long way this far. Today as he retires to home, he is overwhelmed with emotions. He is one of the most silent staff and who did not know how to deny things. Man of few words but larger actions. His retirement itself is a testament how he has humbly served the nation to his ability. Today, there are many incidences of people being sacked out in connection with corruption, fund embezzlement or any other sorts of unhealthy practices. In the contrary, he...

Blooming

Last year upon the request of the Army Wefare Project(AWP) Gelephu, I have helped them in the landscaping and gardening in front of their factory. Well, time has passed by so rapidly that I hardly bothered to recollect the transformation taking place in their garden.  Although it would be too ambitious on my part to say call it landscaping works since it was just a basic plantation works. Given, not being technical in floriculture field they have limited knowhow with regards to proper choice of plants in their garden. Usually all kinds of plants ranging from perennials to annuals , trees are placed together which unfortunately makes surrounding look unplanned and disorganized.  I have created basin around the tree base; my  first work to start with. There were many giant trees right in the front of their office. Coleus and hydrangeas were planted in it. I chose shade-loving plants since the trees were mostly evergreen with massive canopy. I still remember their conte...

The Necklace , Alexdra Dumas

The necklace by Alexandra Dumas The novel which is over 700 pages would probably be one of the most epic tragedy novel from his times. Fiction or a real history , I found this very amazing and worth piece to while away my lousy times. Initially with so many characters and plots , I had tough time distinguishing them individually. In fact the whole climax and intensity unfolds almost only from the mid and in the last.  All in all a very touching piece from the Author and equally impressed on my first time reading of his books.  In short, the story is about a queen who is very beautiful, noble and generous lady. Like in court anywhere, there are also considerable numbers of people at her service, Each holding different position and duty. Amongst them , a lady who is wicked but smart and intelligent steals trust of the queen and ultimately stabs her from behind. She is the real swindler in her plot to steal the priceless necklace. Her only intent to grab the necklace but ...

Youth into farming

Over the years it has become increasingly difficult to get a decent job despite qualification.  Unemployment rate is shooting up and it will seemingly continue. The simplest logic is that our country is small and the population is ever magnifying. So we cannot simply go on blaming gov for the lack of jobs, instead it's time we look for greener pastures elsewhere , not necessarily in the gov or private service's. Farming in today's world is way stigmatised, and more of younger generation displaying indifferent attitude towards it. That said, there are people with qualified background, renouncing even  their job and taking up such venture .There are people willing to push against the odds and accomplish big dreams. It would be unfair to say  that gov jobs simply warrant our survival . There thriving and prospering in gov service is bleak. In fact to get the facts straight there are  civil servants who struggle even  to make their ends meet.  High rent, li...

The choice

My days this days remind me of those beautiful anecdotes by ruskin bond elsewhere in shimla. The weather is very erratic like itself. It's a sunny morning and wet afternoon or vice versa . Sometime the rains are light and pleasant whereas sometime it's wreaks havoc as if whole the hell broke loose. Rain or shine I see those life going undistracted. Those cows tethered on the arecanut trunk, munching lushes under the bursting sky. In the nearby sty in the village, the pigs are silent and asleep. The chickens in the coop too. The roads are weted afresh. Countless cars ply with wippers in full swing. From the school in the vicinity, kids are outbound for home. Little girls playfully walking the roads, tossing their umbrella and  barely caring to protect themselves from the rain. Now and then they dip their legs in the puddles formed by the rain. Little do they know that their parents are worried about them. I assume they will have to face the wrath after reaching home. Th...

Disaster .

Today a fire broke out from a shop near the  Lango school. The cause of the fire is yet to be established . We were at the scene right when the fire started to emanate. Initially there were huge smokes and fumes coming all out from the house ,later the fire started to blaze. We were dazed and couldn't do anything untill someone took initiative to help shift the things. Some hostile things were readily shifted and reached to safer places.  Meanwhile the fire fighters arrived at the scene.  The fire by then has become very big and the blaze filled the air. It was a horrifying scenario. From what i saw during the ordeal,I assume the firebrigade car has no sufficient water. There were two vehicle one big and another smaller one dispatched to contain the fire. Had it not been the small stream near the school, the quantity of water in the car would  not have managed to contain the fire. The people who were present at the scene help create a pool to refill the brigade ca...

USA.president.

I don't remember seeing Facebook pages being flooded with status when Bhutan elected it's prime minister. But when its presidential election day in USA, Bhutanese are discussing as if it's Donald Trump and Clinton who are  becoming the president og BHUTAN.  This is a huge irony,  wanting to know more about other countries and whereas interest to our national event doesn't even come close.  Well, it's is good to know about world news and keep abreast of the latest happening but it's not very necessary to take it online , discuss,  debate about their story. For instance , some  people already started regretting Trump as  the new president,  they have gone as far as writing abusive , dissatisfaction etc on the wake of the Trump being elected as the new president.  I feel, many Bhutanese are analysts trying to predict the future of America under their new leadership.  Nobody has assigned us to analyse their future and  it doesn't al...

This  game is  called as "seven stone". It was our favourite while we were kids. For safety reasons we have replaced the seven stones with wooden slabs. Now the basic rule is very easy and fascinating.  The team will be divided into two groups with equal number of members. One group will be assailant and other will be fugitives. One member from any group has to hit the stones and dishevel the stake with a ball. Then immediately they need to run away else other opponent will hit the ball and you you are dismissed. However if you can escape their hit and quickly come back to the spot to stake the stones together then you  win the match. You should take precaution not to get hit before  all the stones are staked together completely. Suppose all members are hit before they can stake the stones other will be declared the winner. Hence,  they will get the privilege to break the stakes f...

This is the tiny flicker of flame from the butter lamp. It's always overwheming to enjoy the beauty of the flame in the pitch darkness, for this very reason I prefer sleeping in the altar room. What is more splendid is when the faces of the little satute illuminated under the low light of the lamp.Such sight is soothing and ease the mind from all negative defilement,  stress and invigorate our mental strength. As I keep watching the flame gradually dance in an elegant move. As it shake and flicker , the whole night is enchanted by her graceful dance. What assit her dance is the song playing from my phone. Sweeter the lyrics appear , better her dance assumed. What I regret is the moths who are staring from outside seeking every chance to arrest her attention. Perhaps i am  cruel because I have shielded the lamp in a glass case to debar the moths from assaluting her beauty.  Well, it should be a good cruelty becasue I don't want those innocent lovestircken flies to ...

to kill a mocking bird

I googled for some good books to read, and instantly they suggested me with long list of books. Many of the authors were stranger to me and haven’t read any of their work till date.  One book among them was the “kill a mocking bird” by Harper lee. I am reading her novel for the first time and it has enticed me to read more of her work. Its really an awesome book written in simple English, easy to understand and the plot in the story are also splendid. From what I perceived, the book covers every topic from love , crime and about racial scenario from  those times.  The main story talks about a widower Atticus and his two children jean and jem respectively. Dad is lawyer and he defends the innocent from the false conviction. He is a kind person and open minded, seen defending black people in the court against the white. Those times racial discrimination prevailed, we was rare for a white to fight in blacks cause. In fact his advice to his children was also noble, asking t...

cherry blossoms

I always imagine about our thimphu city being embellished with abundant ornamental trees, that would add beauty and glamour to already natural beauty that our city area possess. There are many trees like cherry blossoms, maple, dogwood , etc that are really exquisite and refreshing. The flower of this plant creates a picturesque surrounding and also scent the air with sweet fragrance. For instance in japan the cherry blossoms are widely grown, these trees bears flowers which so magnificent and literally paints the sky in different colours. Similarly if we can introduce those beautiful plants to Bhutan , it can really facelift the beauty of our place. Particularly the capital city really needs some diverse trees of aesthetic essence. Given our climatic conditions similar to that of japan and korea where cherry blossoms are grown extensively, we can seemingly grow this in the thimphu valley or elsewhere. Some of the possible location in thimphu where we can plant those splendid trees...

book review

Last time while on the way to shimla , inside the bus a book peddler came holding huge stakes of books in his arm. The entire spines of the books were facing me. Briskly I scanned the titles and then came across this novel “gone girl” by Gillian Flynn. I have heard the title before , and later realized It was from motion pictures.  After little bargain  I purchased the book and ever since it was travelling along with me. However I didn’t start reading until I reached back to college. Few days back I graced the book and it was my good past time for the weekend. The ‘ Gone girl,’ by Gillian Flynn is a very nice novel. It talks about a girl who suddenly disappears from her own house. Everyone thinks that she is being murdered by her own husband  nick dunes . He comes under a very severe interrogation and frequently detained for the alleged murder. All the while his sister and his friend stand by his side trying to prove that he was not guilty of any crime. Later they so...

views on establishing slaughter house in bhutan.

In the wake of recent discussion in the parliament about whether or not to establish slaughter house has sparked an immense debate among the various citizens. In a Buddhist country like ours, where the fundamental principle of living is empowered by love and compassion, the push to establish a slaughter house depicts the   greatest   irony of all time. Regardless of the various benefits that the slaughter house is viewed to provide , its has hurt the sentiments of many devoted Buddhists and central monastic body in particular. There are even widespread rumor that the country will sooner run into chaos and misfortune since the news has provoked our gods. However not every people is against the idea of setting up of the slaughter house. There are considerable number of people who thinks that an import on huge meat products from India should be banned, rather emphasize on a producing a home processing unit that can ensure clean, reliable and timely meat products. Its appare...

beautiful day.

With onset of summer monsoon , the grasses are growing lushly . Everywhere looks green , the playground is carpeted with lushness too.   The trees are showered and look afresh. The rain removes the dust from the road   making it very clean .   students carrying colourful bags and books are outbound for college. Since there was a mild rainfall in the morning, the prognosis of a sky burst made many girls to open up their umbrella. The campus look amazing with dazzling   umbrella walking in all direction. The air is resonated with laughter and merry   vibes from the   classroom. Somewhere not afar , students are singing their hymns in height of devotion. The salvation is in the air too. The gardener is engaged in weeding, he always ensure that an   aesthetic decorum of the college is   kept up to date. The fruitless tree stand erect in an orchard, except for some golden bers. The field has been prepared for cultivation of gladiolus in the upcomin...

Internship at NOP. Semtokha

I am doing intern in NOP  National Organic  Programme, along with two of my colleagues. All of us were so excited and eager to join the office anytime. Personally I felt lot apprehensive about joining service and it was my first time experience.  Still studying in college I feel strange to office or service life. I have to pretend like matured man,act like a officer or  walk the talk like any other officer. But my blood is stull vibrant and filled with college livelihood. To put out point blank I am not yet  ready to join service.  At least  we are fortunate that our coordinator is very frank and amiable lady with premium qualification. From the first day itself she arranged One  room for us. Three tables and three revolving chairs were provided. We rushed for the best chair and sat playing like a kid  .It was awesome to sit and roll from one corner to another on the chair.  However things ain't always pleasant like we anticipate. ...

an armyworm.

Major pest infesting the crops during this season is an armyworm. Notably found in every farmers field and in orchards, Lawns etc. It's creepy to see massive number of these worms crawling all over the lawn ,on the roads and in vicinity of house.  The insect posses an eyesore characteristics. They have dirty appearance and disgusting body . Since they come in large number like an army,  they are frequently  stepped over by humans or ran over by cars . Already they have ambushed all the grasses near our house and are  resilient to turn back. They crawl over the concrete floor and even enter inside . Being saga dawa this month is sacred and we are forbidden from any killing and destroying of any lives regardless of the magnitude of their infestation. It's a big irony because, this season is time for growing veggies and paddy cultivation. We have to decide in becoming a sympathezer or curb this pest infestation. my biggest concern is that if we don't act outright the...

Night mare

I was all alone asleep when  night mare shook away my sleep. Immediately I reached for my phone and looked at the time ,it was 2.30am. Room was very dark and silence was as dead. Cacophony of Barking dogs filled the air outside.  I remembered people saying that, dogs alone can see ghost at night hence they  bark relentlessly. My bladder felt like bursting, scarily I visited the washroom.  Telling myself it was just a dream ,nothing to get scared, this and that ,gave me some strength to sleep again. But my sleep was short lived and the nightmare struck again. It was like continuing a horror movie after an  intermission. There was a guy with no face ,grabbed me by neck with both his hand .He wanted to take me to his place and could be done only after killing me first. I was deprived of any strength and my body was paralyzed.i tried to shout out loud for help but I was dumb. All I was able to do was chant 'oma hum"by heart .I was grabbing every opportunity to scr...
