the bee

There was a solitary bee who was wondering aloft merrily from place to place. He was alone but free and happy, his minds were clean and his heart stood still. One day he came across a vast field with so many roses. The sweet fragrance and the soft splendid beauty enticed him badly. Hereafter his heart was no more still, against his rib cage the heart would throb,  by and by his heart beat would synchronize with the elegant dance of the roses in the wind.  Every day he flew near to the roses ,he felt so happy nearby them.  Days ran into weeks and so on, he continued to pay them visit.  They were all happy, cherished together.  The roses were not only beautiful but soft and alluringly sweet. They were very courteous and generous. In fact when he saw them for the first time, he was shy and reluctant to get near them but they weren't. He was lost in amenities provided by those roses, longer he spent near them deeper he became inseparable. Many days passed in the s...

A silent thief

I was driving alone from Tphu to Pling . On the way a man carrying backpack hailed at my car for a lift . The weather looks overcasted and brimmed with rain that would explode anytime. I pulled over My car to accommodate him, beside I thought it would be a good past time to have a company for conversation along. Usually I travel atleast with one company, child or elder because it would keep me alert and awake. I have heard lot of horrifying accidents about an exhausted driver or simply falling asleep while driving. I unlocked the door on the back seat and gestured him to hop in. He looked overwhelmed and relieved. Thus the journey continued. He was a farmer and was also heading to Pling to see his pregnant daughter who has just delivered her baby the other night. He was pretty anxious and excited to hear the news. He was a decent talker and humble in manner. We conversed on so many things. They were from humble background, his daughter worked as a waitress in one of hotel in P...

Favourtism

Image
I pulled back the curtain and saw my sister playing outside. Her playmate was the little girl from the next door. They look playful and happy despite heavy sunshine. Meanwhile, I took to the fridge and look for something to eat or drink and to give to the happy playmates outside. I forgot, there was mango that I bought yesterday. It was packed inside a plastic bag. I observed closely and at length picked the biggest one. I relished the piece.Perhaps because of hot weather outside and also my empty stomach it tasted amazing like never before. There was two more left in the plastic. I wanted to give to those kids and went outside. I called the two passionate playmates. I can see sweats smearing down their face. They looked tired but their smile defied their tiredness. They ran toward me seeing what's in my hand. More than anything I saw an innocent soul in their eyes, uncorrupted by any defilements such as jealousy, greed and hypocrisy which otherwise is becoming cancerous to so...

The officer

It's was a longstanding dream of my parents to pursue my career in the military. Inspired by their motivation and support , I too gradually developed affinity for working as a police officer. Most of the time it was my best friend who never failed to encourage me in the pursuit of my dream. 4 years passed in the college , came proudly graduated. But the pride was short-lived. Because I was like thrown into the boxing ring and made to fight without any training , skills . Assuming all graduates as contestant for the fight, chances for loosing my tooth,or nose was more than wining the fight. Similarly, chances of getting job for me was getting dimmer by then. Well, one day I saw a vacancy for police officer in the news paper. It caught my attention immediately ,I applied for the vacancy without a seconds delay. After all that was what I awaited for long time and to slip it away would be disaster to me . Everything happened very rapidly, soon I was shortlisted and sat for...

an orphan

An  orphanage is not visible on her face to know her inner plight. I was with some of my colleagues chatting over a cup of tea in the shop. It was silent except for few customer at the other end engrossed in their chat as well. Abruptly, I heard a child wail that created a slight commotion outside .  Tempted, craned my neck toward the window and observed what was happening. A small girl was being reprimanded by a woman whom I suppose was her mom. The woman seems to have l ost all her nerves and she was looking fearsome. She smacked the girl two or three times on her back and the girl started to sob. Head drooped low,she wiped her tears with the end of her sleeves. The woman commanded her to go to house at once. Submissively she left the spot. I have seen the kid few times around, sometimes playing with friends and other ocassion playing with the dogs. Although, something about her look did evoke some instinct within me . Perhaps a sense of curiosity or otherwise i being...

An old vendor by the road side.

There is a small makeshift hut beside the road on my way to the office. It's structure by standard doesnt even come close to be called as a decent kiosk. It's slightly raised above the ground ,to avoid flooding during heavy rain. The roof is made out of a tin that is used as drum for storing bitumen meant for road blacktopping. It has become rusty and filled with leaks. Every day ,an old woman would come and sit in that hut for an entire day to sell her things. She come very early in the morning and retires to home before the sun set. She would always come with cane basket,Which is just partially filled and would display her sales in the tiny space as close to her lap. There would be few vegetables, fruits, some dairy products and few collections of sweets and supari . I wonder ,does passerby even give her an attention let alone buying her things. Whether or not if there are buyers ,she is always present there in her small hut rain or shine. Often I see her sealing the roo...

Shock

It  was at decehnphu. I had never even dreamt that the day would have such a tremendous impact on my life. The single incident just; turned the tide which was restrained within me . Let me not bit around the bush,  point is I had a cross. I crossed with my intimate a highschool friend. That was just a coincidence but listen Its something more than just a cross. The friend of mine got some company, two girls.; It was that moment which knitted a new episode in my life story. By nature I am not a quick person but listen I got her number quicker than I anticipated. Again it is nothing surprising because you know I have; put my friend into use. Well, what is the use of having the contact, when I lacked the stomach to call. Few days I scrolled her contact and did not diall ,very effortless. I typed her number and then erased it altogether, I did that many times. Atlast , I besought the help of my friend again. It eased my situation. He has done the introduction, rest was my job. T...

The bus

Image
I was travelling in a city bus. It was cramped with passengers but I was lucky enough to have got a seat. Sitting next to me was an elderly man dressed up shabbily. His hair was partly grey and his teeth were rusty -stained indicating his addiction to doma and tobacco. He blew his nose quite often and coughed a lot.  I assume he made everyone in the bus quite uneasy. Few school goers even whispered lewd remarks in English amongst themselves. However, his presence did not bother me at all. In fact I broke the ice and tried to start conversation with him. I asked about his whereabouts, his health and I even advised him some home remedies to curb his cough. He was glad to get into talk with me and our conversation ensued for the rest of the journey. From the starting of the journey there was a minor ruckus in the bus and passengers complaining about a foul smell inside the bus. Even I did smell the reek which was somewhat like that of a stool.  Later as the bus moved the sm...

The real bitch..

Few girls were walking down the road. Just then a dog pounced on a chicken nearby and escaped with it . The owner , an aged man  tried chasing the thief dog however in vain. The dog ran passed the goup of girls in walking ahead. The old man yelled , "hey there you go, old bitch". The girls reacted to the words, "you clumsy old dick" another said ,"you old crooked loser" , all laughed at their own reply and walked away. Old man muttered to himself , " heaven only  knows , who the real bitches are? The dog or those girls moving the same road.....

A surprise news.

Image
After seeing a request for an immediate blood donation in the news paper , karma decides to visit the  hospital. It was his long-standing dream to volunteer in such social services. Meanwhile in the hospital, his blood were extracted and screened for detailed examination.  He sat on the bench in the hall, awaiting confirmation of his blood sample. He felt restless, decided go about the hall reading the long medical information pasted across the wall. Just in , a nurse called out his name and ushered him to the chamber . The door was ajar,he could see the doctor on his chair scribbling something on a paper. Few more doctors joined from inside the adjacent chamber.  He was called in. The doctors thanked and appreciated his invaluable service . Everything was fine until one of the doctor broke an unexpected news to him, "We are sorry, you a have HIV infection" . All the hell broke loose on him, he was dazed.  Therafter he could not hear all the consolation and a...

Diwali

Maya lived in an old hut all by herself.  Her only child passed away in a fatal accident one year back. Today is a  Diwali , she has to dispel the darkness with anything available. Few candles were lit up and placed it in the front of her hut.   She watched and listened as the village enlivened itself with songs and parties.  The night was starry and the air was frosty. Dilwali came once in a while,  She knew it very well. Families came together, rejoiced with songs and laughter.  Meals would be grant and delicious.  Maya, checked her kitchen and found only a handful of rice flour.  She got down to make few pieces of shalroti for her dinner. Slowly few group of boys gathered outside singing and expecting her appearance. They sang verses of prayers and wished for her good health,  she needed to drop some money to them. 'May love abounds in aunties house, May wealth prospers in aunties house, May good health prevails in aunties hous...

Accidnet

Tsheiring made with a fatal accident.  The taxi she was ferrying collided with a truck and was crushed flat.  Other passgengers did not make alive ,she somehow survived but sustained critical injuries. Bloods splashed the accident spot, she bleeded heavily too. All she could recall was the fleeting scene of the truck speeding inbound out of control. The driver slammed the brake but it was too late. The passing vehicles pulled over to help the victims. Tshering was  rushed to the hospital. Her body looked fine except for the deep gash on the forehead that opened blood like a river. She was layed on the stretcher and rolled into an emergency chamber. In the reception counter the officials and doctors  gathered for a  brief discussion.  Shortly, the  man who brought her to the hospital was called in. They explained him that she needed an immediate surgery as her internal organs were significantly damaged . Her internal bleeding had to be stop by anymean...

beggar

I saw a leper, groping alongside the road and begging. His face was distorted and his hands decomposed. People declined to go near him, because his body smelt foul. Children's teased and poke stick on him while some stoned. He became a toy for the kids and a dumped garbage to the people. Tears turned into bloods, words into plea,  but gone heedless. I could not stand the sight of his endless suffering anymore. I reached my wallet to grab some bucks. The wallet came smooth. I saw him staring at me with all hearts and eyes filled with tragedy. I understand his body was diminishing gradually but his heart wasn't. Meantime, I felt the emptiness in between the partition of my wallet. It has been long ,I ran broke altogether. To utter dismay, I checked once again. A single rupee note crumpled in between the ATM cards was discovered.

frobidden

Fisherman and his wife lived in a secluded hut nearby the river bank. He was very caring and hardworking husband. Every day he went for fishing and then took it to the market for selling. With that money, he bought enough provisions to last for a week. He also bought clothes and gifts for his wife who really endeared surprise from him.  She was a modest housewife, sincere and hardworking. She would wake up early, complete her chores and share her bed tea together. They adored each other very much. One fateful day the husband was out for fishing. The weather otherwise fine in the morning changed. Thunders rumbled and sky blackened menacingly. It started to rain, the torrent gushed aloud. She felt anxious and kept her vigil on the wall clock. Incessant rain made her scared and her pulse increased. She stayed put and crossed fingers for her husband's safety. At length the sky slowly cleared and the sun reappeared. When the rain stopped she stepped out, headed for the stream. The r...

suicide

Deki was a very good friend of mine. She was from a well off family. Though her parents were very rich, their marital relationship was not in a good shape. Frequently they would quarrel and the conversation would dry up for a long time. It was deki who had to bear the severe brunt of their unstable bond.  One time I went to get my book from her house, I heard a commotion ongoing inside. The door was ajar, I could see her parents quarreling followed by the sound of a flower vase breaking and photo frames slamming the marbled floor. Just then the door to dekis room also slammed shut; I heard her sobbing over the pillow. Deki would not share about her problem to anyone, not even to me. She was more resilient than I imagined. She would deliberately delay going home, together strolled along the children park and relished stuff from the hawker. She would never let me pay even if I wanted to. As a token of friendship, she would allow me to carry her backpack full of books. Back then we h...

smiling girl.

Like always I arrived at the station punctually and boarded the bus prior to its departure time. Few minutes later the engine ignited the bus galloped. It pulled over at many places picking up and dropping the passengers simultaneously. I did not give much of my attention to anything around me instead kept busy with the newly bought lava phone. In the distance I could see a bus stop and few girls in the vicinity awaiting the bus. As it pulled over,a girl with a tall stature hailed at our bus. Her hair was unkempt and falling behind her ears. I assure not many caught her attention like I did. I sneaked a glance at her. At length the bus halted subsequently she entered. The hand bag in her arms told me she was a college –goer, supposedly of my age too. The scenario inside the bus was bad, cramped with massive commuters.  Seemingly she would have to stand and travel, seats were occupied already.  I felt bad because the road ahead was bumpy. It is always miserable to balance...

an unexpected letter

When I was in intermediate school I had a crush on one girl form our own class. I will not describe how beautiful she was because its undeniable. May be through friends or by herself she came to reveal my feeling for her; however no miracle occurred in our relationship. Thus the time elapsed and we were basically engaged with our studies. As usual I was a backbencher, enjoying what was screened in the front rows. Occasionally I would sneak a glance at her and then pretend as if I was studying. At recess and during free classes I would watch her, while she fondled pencil in between her fingers skillfully.  she loved chatting, especially with her desk partner the conversation would be endless. Our class was full of fun and games. Often I needed to control their voice because I was the class captain, the post I largely hated. Although we were in class twelve but friends were worst than children in doing prank. Sticking chewing gum on back, tying the shoe laces and doodling funny ima...

the woman in the field.

The weather was ideal and prefect for strolling around the campus field. The sun was down and its orange rays dusted in the sky. In the distance the train travelled, hissing and its engine rumbling. On other days there would be farmers ramping up their days work and walking home. A typical Indian woman, in their beautiful sari one hand akimbo and balancing some load on their head. From behind I could calculate their steps, they would tread along in line laughing and joking with their counterpart.  Presently not a single sign of life was seen, it was pitch silent and I was a solitary walker. I walked along the path amidst the lush crops. The corn was in prime growth, the tall sugarcane leaves waved in the wind. Somewhere afar, lonesome shadow stood firm at the edge of the field. I reckon it was a girl, because her hairs were untied and fluttered in the air. She had a figure tall and slim, assumed to be sexy. I felt curious; it is unusual to find a girl alone and at this odd time. ...

the sacrifice

Woman was ailing from long terminal illness, clinically declared as acute renal (kidney) failure, basically was severe kidney cancer that needed intensive care. Both her kidney had collapsed; her body was inside the intensive care unit (ICU), fitted to several oxygen cylinders and sophisticated wires injected into her body. Though she had to go through the pain but she was not alone. Her son stood by her side in all the crucial times and he wanted to sacrifice more. He was the best son she had, his love, dedication and care were ineffable. Last thing he can do to save his mother was to give one of his kidneys. Every formality was completed and his medical condition examined. He wore the maroon surgical gown and awaited arrival of his dear wife. His surgery was due in half hour.  He sat in the  waiting room, biting his clenched knuckle, stood up and made several short walk about the hall way. Few minutes later sharp siren of ambulance resonated outside the hospital.  Sub...
